Our special Guest - Ruby Tui

Pohutukawa Syndicate were very lucky last week! Phoenix's Aunty came to visit us during Wa Whanau to show us her Silver Medal and tell us about the Rio Olympics.

Ruby Tui played in the New Zealand Women's Sevens team that won silver at the Olympic Games.

We all got to hold the Silver Medal - it was really heavy!

Ruby talked to us about the importance of trying and practicing to get better at things. We need to be determined and think "I can do it!"
We enjoyed meeting Ruby and asking her lots of questions about the Olympics.

Congratulations Ruby and thank you for sharing your medal and stories with us!

Medal Ceremony

To celebrate our amazing Pohutukawa Olympics we held a medal ceremony during our Syndicate Assembly...

Pohutukawa Olympics

We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating the end of our Inquiry learning unit - Let the Games Begin: Rio 2016.

Pohutukawa Syndicate held their own Olympic Games. Each class came up with their own 'Country name', National Anthem and events for the games.

Room 11 were 'Golden England' and we had our very own haka written by the children.

Golden England Haka:
Pingao Ingarani
Ki runga rawa
Toa, toa
Tekau ma tahi
Go! Go! Go!
Hei ha - he!

First we all gathered in the horseshoe and performed our National Anthems

First event... Shotput.

Second event... Wheelbarrow race.

Third event... Three-legged race.

Then came the finals...

For some fun we had a water sponge relay race.

And a tug of war to finish.
It was a fantastic Syndicate Olympics!
Well done everybody for demonstrating the Olympic Values:

  • Friendship
  • Respect
  • Excellence

Cross Country

We had a great time at our school Cross Country last Friday. It was noisy, fun, exciting, scary and awesome!
